Fill Handle is the lower right corner of the active cell (i.e. cell where
the cursor is on). Filling is similar to copy and paste except that if the
starting cell(s) is/are part of a Series, filling will paste the subsequent
values of the Series instead of simply filling the resulting cells with the
same values as the starting cell(s). For example, if you highlighted a cell
with ‘January’ or ‘Monday’, and used the Fill Handle to fill subsequent
cells, Excel will fill the next month or next day of the week whereas copy
and paste would simply paste ‘January’ or ‘Monday’. You can create your own
Series (e.g. S, M, L, XL, XXL) or define your own interval when filling. For
example, instead of using 1 to fill 1, 2, 3, 4; you want to fill with only
odd numbers (i.e. interval of 2), you would start the sequence by typing 1 in
the first cell then 3 in the next cell, highlight both cells then fill. |
